Saying Goodbye

The last year has been a tough one, but it was probably the hardest for my grandma since losing the love of her life.  She persevered and fought as hard as she could, but in the end, the heartbreak was too great.  She was a fantastic woman - a fighter till the end.  Now she was able to spend their 70th anniversary together, and I know that's what she wanted!

I have many great memories of grandma - her wonderful chocolate chip cookies, her love of sweets, and the happiness in her when she held Adaley this summer!  I have always felt bad that I wasn't able to be with my grandpa when he was sick, so I didn't hesitate to hop a flight to Buffalo to be with mom and the family for the funeral.  It was remarkable to see how many lives she and grandpa both influenced - from her golf club, the group home, and many others from the community.  I enjoyed sitting in their family room listening to crazy stories from all the kids about their childhood.  Although it was a very sad time, it was nice to see all 10 kids together and to have our "slumber party" in G & G's house, with most of us sleeping on the floor.

My grandparents were wonderful people, and I wish I would've had more time to spend with them.  They will always motivate me to be a better person and to help others.

Grandma and Bug this summer

 So special - 4 generations!
I treasure the relationship I had with all my grandparents, and that's why we've vowed to never move away from our girls' grandparents.  I'm happy they get to grow up so close to their grandparents and will have that important bond.
